Themed Entertainment Writing
Humans and mermaids alike are welcome to dive into SeaSparkle Cove, a shop brimming with bioluminescent lamps, shimmery stationary, and aquatic trinkets.
For DWRI 720: Writing for Immersive Experiences, I challenged myself to write treatments, loglines, and scripts for a themed retail concept, which are often more subtle than other themed experiences.
GUEST PERSONAS: CHILDREN 5-12 | WHIMSICAL TEENS & ADULTS | MERMAID-CORE INFLUENCERS
When guests step aboard this U.S.S. Enterprise-themed resort, they can boldly go on space-set rides and attractions, relax during shore leave on a tropical planet, or play a resort-wide, “alien of the week”-type game that culminates, as all the best Trek episodes do, in an ethical conundrum.*
I am developing this WIP story treatment as part of my final thesis at SCAD. This project seeks to explore how designers can apply video games’ interactive, cinematic storytelling techniques to location-based experiences. For more writing related to this project, please see the game I’m designing (also WIP). I also created a story bible for Lacerta IV, the alien planet that also functions as the resort’s outdoor recreation space, which can be found below.
GUEST PERSONAS: TREKKERS OF ALL AGES | CON ENTHUSIASTS | LARP CLUBS | PROUDLY “NERDY” COUPLES, FAMILIES, & FRIEND GROUPS
*Please note that, as a student, I am allowed to use IP for educational purposes. I do not claim to own the rights to Star Trek.
Explorers who travel to Lacerta IV, a tropical alien planet, will find adventure among the bamboo forests, tree canopies, and hydropower sculptures.
I documented my creative decisions about this civilization’s lore, conflict, environment, biology, visual identity, and cuisine through a story bible. This project supplemented my Trek Quest thesis (above), acting as an alien-themed, pool-and-retail area for the resort, but this concept could also be realized as a water park in its own right.
GUEST PERSONAS: MULTI-GENERATIONAL FAMILIES | ADULT COUPLES & FRIEND GROUPS
Fairies have invited humans to traverse Gossamer Grove, an enchanting yet low-stimulation community where guests can shop, dine, and partake in fae culture.
GUEST PERSONAS: YOUNG & NEW ADULTS SEEKING UNIQUE THIRD SPACES | REMOTE EMPLOYEES AND STUDENTS LOOKING FOR RELAXING PLACES TO WORK | FAMILIES
My team created this retail park for Storyland’s 2024 design challenge. View our full process book here, which includes work by my collaborators McKenna Kreiling, Sofia Munoz, and Sasha Raskin. In addition to project managing this concept, I created the key concept art, wrote the backstories and story treatment, designed the scavenger hunt, drew the characters, 3D modeled five of the structures in SketchUp, and edited the renders in Photoshop. If I were to redo this project, I would write succinct loglines to accompany these lengthy story treatments.
